Installation of the ODBC extension to Frontier

To download and install the ODBC extension to Frontier, follow those steps:

  • Make sure you have Frontier 5.02b3 or higher for Mac, or 5.02b1 or higher for Windows. 5.02b14 or above is highly recommended!
  • Download extensions.odbc from http://www.tallent.com/root/system/extensions/odbc.html
  • Unzip or unstuff the downloaded file, if not done automatically
  • Open Frontier, and double-click on extensions.odbc, the unzipped file
  • In Frontier, go to the extensions.odbc table, and run the init() script. If it fails at file.writewholefile(), don't worry and just run the script again. This was a small root bug that was fixed in a 5.02bxx Userland update, so you may want to upgrade your root.
  • Select the menu Main-->Suites-->ODBC Query Tool
  • Select the menu ODBC Query Tool-->Preferences-->Edit Connect Params...
You will see something like the window below:

    Preferences Window

  • Enter the following information in the table:
    • dsn: This is your data source name, as defined in your ODBC Setup Panel (case sensitive!)
    • uid: Your user name for this data source
    • pwd: Your password for this data source
  • Save your Frontier root (control-s or command-s)

You have just completed the installation of the ODBC extension to Frontier.
