DRAFT
The proposed process is divided into the following stages:
- Proposal
- Preparatory
- Enquiry
- Submission
Proposal
One or more people may suggest a project idea on any list. This idea may be discussed and if enough interested a proposal is drafted and a call for participation is issued.
Preparatory
A mail list is set up for the working group to prepare the project. If the working group can not provide a mail list for discussion, then ScriptMeridian will provide one. The convener(s) will decide on a process for how the working group shall proceed, taking into consideration ScriptMeridian guidelines. It is recommended that the working group draw up a charter which specifies:- The overall goal of the group
- Criteria for completeness of the group's work
- Deliverables with target dates
One Note: Documentation is NOT OPTIONAL, the workgroup should plan the documentation effort as carefully as they plan the software design (and in fact they should go hand in hand).
Enquiry
After the working group has completed an initial version of the project, it is made available to the larger community for a period of feedback. ScriptMeridian will provide website space for this part of the process if it is not available within the working group.
Submission
Upon completion of the goals of the working group, it is the option of the workgroup to submit the results of the project to ScriptMeridian for distribution and custody. Including a section of the ScriptMeridian website made available to the project and its documentation. What happens next? This is largely up to the workgroup members
- The project can be reopened for revisions by this same process, but the following should be considered:
- Ensuring that some project is not in continual revision and has periods of burn in.
- That the original conveners of a project have some way to insure that they are involved in subsequent revisions if they want.
- To insure that suggestions are collected after a project is submitted - perhaps this could be an additional phase after submission, "Suggestions for the Future" stage, that once enough are made - could result in a new proposal?
